Booking choice: The lake and Alma-Arasan car tour, from $59 per person. Check dates Tour details
Big Almaty Lake tours look alike on paper: a van from Almaty, the lake, the Alma-Arasan hot springs, back for lunch. The differences are in the details that shape your morning. How early you start, whether you are collected at your hotel, how long you get at the water, and what else is bolted on.
Every tour here was checked on GetYourGuide in October 2026, with from-prices in US dollars. All cancel free up to 24 hours before.
The quick answer
For most visitors: the Alma-Arasan car tour from $59, with lunch and about an hour at the lake. On a budget: the no-hiking tour from $49 with a 6 am start. For hotel pickup and a calmer day: the Birlik tour from $132. Walkers: the guided hike from $32. Winter: the snow bike from $190.

Is there a day tour of Big Almaty Lake?
Yes, several. Most are half days of 4 to 6 hours with the Alma-Arasan hot springs added; the falconry day, the guided hike and the summit hike take longer.
All eight side by side:
| Tour | Way up | At the lake | Also in the day | Trip length | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| No-hiking tour | Direct transfer | Early, before the crowds | Alma-Arasan, a meal | 4 h | $49 |
| DAO Travel car tour | Car to the lake | About 1 h (guests report) | Almarasan springs, food | 5 h | $55 |
| Alma-Arasan car tour | Permit car | About 60 min | Springs, lunch, snacks | 5 to 8 h | $59 |
| Lake and birds of prey | By car | Short stop, then two gorges | Springs, Ayusai, falconry show (about $12 extra) | 7 to 9 h | $59 |
| Hotel-pickup car tour | Smaller mountain car | About 1 h | Alma-Arasan, hotel pickup | 6 h | $132 |
| Guided hike | On foot, 6 to 7 km | About 4 h | Free time at the lake | 13 h | $32 |
| Big Almaty Peak summit | On foot | On the way up and down | The 3,680 m summit | 10 h | $240 |
| Snow bike tour | Snow bike, winter | Frozen lake | Instructor, safety gear | About 5 h | $190 |
The all-rounder: a permit car up, about an hour at the lake, then the springs and lunch.
Check dates for the lake and Alma-Arasan car tourCar, foot or snow bike: which way up?
By car if you have a morning and want the view; on foot if you want the lake to feel earned and have a full day; by snow bike if you come in winter.
- By car: about an hour from the city, an hour at the viewpoints, and no exertion beyond a scramble over rocks. The trade-off is time: the permit car comes back for you.
- On foot: 6 to 7 km and about 800 m of climb from the barrier, roughly three hours up. You get the gorge, the pipeline and the Hobbit waterfall, and as long at the lake as you like.
- By snow bike: a winter-only ride with an instructor, from your hotel. Confirm the exact route with DAO Travel before booking: since April 2026 the park has tightened rules on electric vehicles on the lake road (bes.media).
Not sure you can manage the walk? Read the hike guide first.
What does each car tour include?
All five car tours include transport, a guide and the park fee; they differ on food, pickup and the extras.
- Adam Hiking Tours ($59): eco-fee, English-speaking guide, transfer, lunch, snacks and water. A 20-minute forest walk to the Alma-Arasan springs. Small group.
- Panda Travel no-hiking ($49): transport, guide, entry tickets and a meal. Meet at 6:00 to 6:15 am in front of the Renion Zyliha hotel.
- DAO Travel ($55): park entry, the car to the lake, the Almarasan stop, food and drinks. The widest choice of guide languages.
- Kazakhstan Guided Tours ($59): guide, minibus, park admission, bottled water and a cafe meal. The falconry show runs April to October and costs about $12 on site.
- Almaty Tours by Birlik ($132): hotel pickup and drop-off, the smaller mountain car, park fees and water. Meals are not included.

Which Big Almaty Lake tour has hotel pickup?
The Birlik car tour, the falconry day (from five named hotels), the summit hike and the snow bike tour; DAO Travel offers it as an option.
The falconry day collects from Ibis Almaty Jetisu, Novotel Living Almaty Jetisu, The Ritz-Carlton, Holiday Inn Express and the Kazakhstan Hotel. The others meet in town: the no-hiking tour at a hotel at 6 am, DAO Travel at the Abay Opera fountain or the First President Park bus stop, and the guided hike near the Almaty Circus.
A hotel pickup is worth paying for if you are staying out of the centre or travelling with older parents. One guest on the Birlik tour noted that the earlier pickup got them to the lake ahead of the tour buses.

Collected at your hotel, switched into a smaller mountain car for the last climb, about an hour at the lake, then Alma-Arasan.

As a bonus, yes; as a reason to book, no. It is a rustic outdoor bathing area with one cold pool, not a spa, and rockfall blocked its road on several days in summer 2026.
The springs sit in the next gorge west, a 20-minute walk along a forest river from the parking area. Guests on the no-hiking tour in July and August 2026 report the road closed for debris, and operators then swap in the Ayusai visitor centre and waterfalls. When it is open, it is a pleasant soak after a cold viewpoint. One guest summed up the good version: "We enjoyed the excursion which allowed us to see Almaty Lake and also swim in a hot spring."
Pack a swimsuit, a towel and water shoes either way, and don't book a tour for the springs alone.

Which tour suits families, older travellers or the unfit?
A car tour. Check the listing's exclusions first: several rule out altitude sickness, high blood pressure, back problems or very young children.
- Small children: the no-hiking tour and DAO Travel are short (4 to 5 hours). The falconry day excludes children under 3. Bring a birth certificate.
- Older travellers: the hotel-pickup tour keeps walking to short stretches on uneven ground. The summit hike is not for anyone over 70.
- Health limits: Adam Hiking Tours lists back problems and altitude sickness; the falconry day adds respiratory issues, high blood pressure and low fitness; the snow bike excludes pregnancy.
Short and early: the no-hiking tour has you at the lake before the crowds and back in town by late morning.
Check dates for the no-hiking tourGuided hike or summit tour: which suits fit walkers?
The guided hike if the lake is the goal; the private summit tour if you want Big Almaty Peak and have a long, hard day in you.
The guided hike costs $32 and runs about 13 hours door to door: a 1.5-hour van ride, a 6 to 7 km climb by the pipe or a more direct line, about four hours at the lake and the walk down. The summit tour is private, costs $240 and covers 20 to 25 km with 1,500 to 1,700 m of climb, via the lake and the Kosmostantsiya to the 3,680 m top.
A middle option: Adam Hiking Tours runs a 14 km guided hike on Mondays only, at the same price as its car tour.

Walk up with a guide and spend about four hours at the lake, with the van and eco-fees included.
